Reading books and remembering all things in it is tough !

I like to read a lot of books and finish a book within 1-2 weeks depending on reading time which is available to me. I like reading self-help and nutrition related books. After reading every book, I can easily recollect the contents of the book. This would gradually decreases over time and couple of times I had to take up the book again and start reading. I hate to dog-ear pages in my books, hence could not reach to relevant portions easily.

Recently I got introduced to Mind mapping and that has been a good tool to use while reading books. My goal when  reading a book is to remember at least 5 essential learning I got from it. I have started creating mindmap for the book. Best practice is to create a mindmap before you begin your reading session. This should be done for content read in previous reading session.

There are couple of softwares also avilable for creating mindmaps but notjhing can beat writing on paper and creating a mindmap by hand.

One tip : Start with a A4 size sheet at least.

Ant & The Elephant

I spend a lot of time in front of computer screen, partly because I am a full time programmer in Java as well as I like to *surf* the Internet. In between I get time to read few books. One of the books which I recently red is "The Ant and The Elephant". It's a simple book highlighting our thinking process and how our brain works.

Normally when you read a book there are lot of things which can be taken from it. I personally believe I won't be able to remember all the facts from books I have read but I try to take something out from each one of them. From this book I found a simple way to remove Negative thoughts from my mind. Thoughts which do not help me in any way and only stop me from doing my work or rather what's necessary.

Before starting anything we sometimes crowd our mind with thoughts like Will it work ?, Would I become successful ?, This app is to difficult to develop ? etc.
Read this book with attention and at the end you also would be able to take something out of it.
